Terri graduated from Warren Central High School and Mississippi State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations. She has also been the recipient of a First Place award in the MPA’s Better Newspaper Contest’s editorial division for the “Best Feature Story.” She is a part-time reporter at The Vicksburg Post and is the editor of the Vicksburg Living Magazine, which has been awarded First Place by the Mississippi Press Association. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Vicksburg.
Saturday and one candidate will be crowned the winner. The final round of competition will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday and continue through Friday at the Vicksburg Convention Center. The Miss Mississippi Pageant preliminary competitions will resume at 7 p.m.
“It feels like you are the star of the show,” Crump said, adding as a young performer she has the opportunity to be on the stage more often than when she was a Magnolia Princess.īoth young performers admitted they had performance jitters. “Instead of just running around getting stuff or scrolling a screen, I have had to have a lot of leadership and direction of what is happening in the show because these kids are relying on me,” she said.Įleven-year-old Lilly Crump said she feels honored to be part of the production. Guests of this year’s pageant will experience a night filled with excitement throughout the production and discover why Miss Hospitality has been celebrated throughout the state since 1949.“Having this job has kind of been like being a camp counselor that has to have multiple talents for everyone to be able to have an understanding of direction since the children’s abilities vary,” Vera Ann Fedell said.Ī volunteer with the Miss Mississippi Pageant organization for seven years, Vera Ann Fedell said the children as a whole were pretty well-behaved, and she has enjoyed working with them even though the job has been more demanding than those she held in the past. Throughout her reign, Erin has traveled across the state as Mississippi’s Goodwill Ambassador.ĭuring the Pageant Week, contestants will explore Hattiesburg, attend social events, and participate in rehearsals and competitions, all leading up to the crowning of the 2016 Mississippi Miss Hospitality. She completed her undergraduate degree at Mississippi State, and served as a Roadrunner Student Recruiter, was involved with Shackouls Honors College, and Chi Omega Sorority. Erin recently began her studies in Physical Therapy at the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson. Presented by Visit Hattiesburg and the Mississippi Development Authority, in conjunction with Forrest General Hospital, the University of Southern Mississippi and the City of Hattiesburg, the Mississippi Miss Hospitality Pageant offers more than $100,000 in scholarships and prizes to the top finalists.Įrin Morgan, 22, of Laurel, won the title of Mississippi Miss Hospitality 2015 last July and has worn the crown with poise, sharing Mississippi’s trademark Hospitality with everyone she encounters. Since then, the pageant has called the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Starkville and now, Hattiesburg home. The pageant originally began in 1949 under then-Governor Fielding Wright and the Mississippi Legislature. This year’s theme, “Destination Hospitality,” showcases that no matter where you travel, you can always come back home to find hospitality and grace in Mississippi.
