I recommend using a block under your front hand until you are warmed up, or if you are unable to come into extended side angle with your hand resting comfortably on the floor. Use extended side angle as the grounding pose for different sequences, keeping your legs still at first and moving only the upper body to experience other shapes. It reminds me that we are led into meditation when we wash away all of the thoughts that distract us from sitting, just as we are led into the stillness of any moment by suspending the parts of our attention that are focused on other tasks.
